CACHE1 (Corvallis Area Christian Home Educators) - Corvallis Area Christian Home Educators (CACHE) is a support and activity community for homeschoolers in the area surrounding Corvallis, Oregon.

Christian Home Education is not a unified theory of education. There are as many ways to educate our children as there are families. In spite of the diversity of our spiritual, philosophical, and educational theories or approaches, unity does exist through our desire to educate our children in a manner that is pleasing to God.

CACHE was founded in order to help create a landing place for new home educators, provide on-line and face-to-face support for parents, strengthen the opportunity for community in our area, and inform families about learning opportunities, field trips, and fun activities.

This group is open to anyone who is seeking a homeschooling community and would genuinely like to participate. We just want to let everyone know up front that we are grounded in a faith in Jesus Christ. We are a cooperative support group, meaning that we encourage members to contribute their skills, talents, and gifts so that all may experience support in their homeschooling adventure.

This list is not a discussion list open to the public, it is for communication between CACHE members. Welcome!

Before posting your items on freecycle, please post it here on the Homeschoolers Exchange first, giving fellow homeschoolers a chance at your recycled things first. KBHG (Klamath Basin Homeschool Group) - We are homeschooling families living in or around the Klamath Basin, straddling the Oregon/California border. We welcome all, including families thinking about homeschooling and those with children too young for official "school."

We are a regional group that utilizes the internet to communicate and plan activities that we attend, rather than a geographically unbound group that uses the internet to support one another in following a certain homeschooling methodology or system. However, we do realize the value such ideological groups provide and encourage families to participate in those for which they feel an affinity.

We recognize the need for and benefit of social interaction and learning outside the home. Hence, we combine for playgroups, field trips, classes, clubs, etc. Many of these activities are organized and/or led by parents within the group. Our parents know that homeschooling provides children and parents an opportunity to learn and grow, and that if each parent gives a little in their own way, the whole group will richly benefit.

We also recognize that, collectively, we represent a large enough community to persuade providers to offer classes, activities and leagues at times and within frameworks that better meet the needs of families not attending public school. This could include dance and karate classes during school hours, soccer and baseball teams made up of homeschool kids, or educational classes designed for multi-age family groups.

    Join us and join in!

Method_to_Homeschool_Madness (For the Methodical Oregon Homeschooler) - using curriculum, schedules, educational theories and other such methods in their homeschool. You are a methodical homeschooler if your homeschool is classically-inspired, for example, and you use ideas from books like The Well Trained Mind. Or maybe you try to follow the Charlotte Mason method of homeschooling. Or perhaps you use one, or a combination of, the numerous packaged homeschool curricula available. Whatever "method" is behind your madness, this list is for you! :-)

It is important to know that our members do not take an unschooling or extremely relaxed approach to homeschooling, nor are they inflexibly tied to a schedule or a particular curriculum.

This is a participatory list. Please don't join expecting to lurk 100% of the time. Even the newest, most inexperienced homeschooler has something to contribute, even if it is just a question on how to get started.

We will share ideas, information, links and virtual hugs as we attempt to apply some method to the madness of homeschooling. Welcome!

    • NO POLITICAL DISCUSSION unless it pertains directly to a homeschooling bill.

orsig (ORSIG--Oregon Homeschoolers) - This list exists to allow Oregon homeschoolers to discuss homeschooling and topics of interest to homeschoolers. This can and will encompass a wide variety of topics, some of which will interest individual members more than others. This list may also serve as a vehicle for you to organize or participate in homeschooling clubs, playgroups, tours, lectures, and other special events. ORSig is a high volume list but the diligent use of accurate subject lines allows for confident use of the delete key. Although many subscribers are from the Portland metro area, the list is for ALL Oregon homeschoolers.

This is a non-commercial list--if you have a product or service you think may be of value to the homeschooling community, a *brief*, one-time announcement may be appropriate but lengthy blatant advertisements are not. If in doubt, please contact the moderators before posting. Orsig members are welcome to submit their contact information to the database of homeschoolers' home businesses.

We strongly encourage you to share your learning experiences, and to ask a lot of questions. ORSig members determine the topics of conversation so, if there's something you want to discuss, please speak up.

ORSIG is whatever YOU make of it. Lurking is permitted, but lively participation is highly encouraged. Choose the level of involvement which best fits your personal needs and preferences. So, wherever you are, please do join in. Let's learn from one another.
