I am always ready to learn but I do not always like being taught.

RUL (Radical Unschoolers List) - This is the "Radical Unschoolers List". It is for all families, regardless of religious affiliation, choosing to unschool their children. Unschooling is child-led learning, learning as a part of life. It allows the child to learn naturally, without adult-imposed "lessons", schedules, or timelines. This list is to offer support, information, perspective, and enlightenment to anyone already unschooling or interested in unschooling.

For more information on unschooling, check out Unschooling.info.

To Subscribe, visit Radical Unschoolers List/.

Taking Children Seriously - A forum for the discussion of TCS child-rearing/educational theory and practice, and for the support of parents trying to make their interactions with their children non-coercive.

For more information, visit Taking Children Seriously.

To Subscribe, send a message to listserve saying (in the body of the message) subscribe TCS your-first-name your-last-name, then follow the instructions to confirm your subscription.

Taking Children Seriously - TCS Discussion Forum. For more information, visit Taking Children Seriously.

To post, visit TCS Discussion Forum.

TheClassicalReview (CharlotteMasonLiterature&MusicDiscussion) - This is a list for homeschooling mothers; specifically those using Charlotte Mason's approach, to broaden their knowledge and horizons by reading some of the classic books that Charlotte Mason recommended and by listening to classical music.

We encourage education, literacy and broadening of ideas of our members by sharing good literature, quotes, poems, ideas and music, especially as these relate to Christian home-educators who aspire to a Charlotte Mason education. All members are encouraged to share their best with the group.

The moderators are Barbara and Rhonda. Everyone is welcome to lead book discussions. If you have a book you would like to read with the group then we would love you to email one or all of the moderators with your idea. Everyone is welcome to post thoughts on quality books read. Anyone can nominate a book to read, but if no-one wants to lead a book discussion then we won't read the book as a group. Moderators will not be able to continue book discussions started by other members.

Books that the members of this list have read and discussed together include Dickens' Cricket on the Hearth, Francis Schaeffer's How Then Should We Live, Ruskin's Sesame and Lilies, Milton's Paradise Lost, The Brothers Karamazov by Dostoevsky, How The Irish Saved Civilisation, A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court, The Moonstone by Wilkie Collins, Les Miserables by Victor Hugo, Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand, Augustine's Confessions and Sophie's World. Free Etexts are available for many of our chosen texts. We will post the URLs for the books as we read them.

To Subscribe, visit The Classical Review.

Trivium Email List - This email list is open to Christian homeschooling families interested in discussing the Trivium and how it can be applied to homeschooling. This email list is moderated by Harvey and Laurie Bluedorn. Once a week (more or less) we will send out accumulated messages to subscribers.

For more information, visit Homeschooling with the Trivium Email List.

    To Subscribe, visit Trivium Pursuit.

TWTMHighSchool (Classical High School Home Schoolers) - A group for those teaching or planning to teach high schoolers at home. We will focus on ideas and materials mentioned in The Well Trained Mind - TWTM and other related books (and probably some totally non-related books as well). :-) The group is open to anyone teaching (or planning on teaching) high school at home. Some materials we will discuss will include Sonlight, Greenleaf Press, Veritas Press, Bluestocking Press, Beautiful Feet, Tapestry of Grace, TRISMS, and others (both religious and secular). This group encourages active involvement! Come along with us and share the adventure of teaching high school at home!

To Subscribe, visit TWTM High School.

Unit-safari (Unit Safari) - This is a CHRISTIAN co-op site where we put together unit studies as a group. This isn't a site for lurkers, but for active participants. We pick a topic every two weeks and our members send information to the list on that particular topic. At the end of that unit collection, the information is organized into a printable unit for members' use. These unit studies include BIBLE References, Learning Objectives, Vocabulary, Reference Books, Living Books, Movies, Websites, Activities, Worksheets, Games, Writing Assignments, and Evaluation Ideas.

This list can have high volume mail, and sometimes quite a bit of attachments go through here. If your mail server does not allow for attachments or a lot of mail, you may wish to register the receiving of your mail in daily digest form. However, you will not get the attachments. For those of you who desire to open all attachments, you will need to make sure your mail is delivered by individual messages. We would ask that you do not register your mail delivery as web only UNLESS you frequent the board at least on a weekly basis. Even then, you might find it hard to catch up on all the mail, and we don't wish for you to miss out on anything.

For more information, visit Unit Safari.

UnschoolersCircle - The Unschoolers' Circle is an inclusive list for anyone interested in home education with unschooling leanings. Sometimes called relaxed schooling or child-led learning or interest-led learning, unschooling encompasses everything in your life, so our conversations range incredibly in subject matter. You just have to check in to see what's being discussed.

Like the Round Table of Arthurian legend, we are a circle of peers. Everyone's input is equally valuable - from the newest newbie to the oldest old hand. All are welcome here.

    To Subscribe, visit Unschoolers' Circle.

UnschoolGrads - I have created this list as a forum for former unschoolers and homeschoolers of any religious, philosophical or political persuasion. Here we can discuss our 'unconventional' upbringing, and the ways in which it's shaped our lives. What was your experience? Do you plan to home/unschool your children? How are you living now? How are you continuing to learn? There is so much to talk about, so let's get together!

    To Subscribe, visit Unschool Grads.

unschooling-dotcom - What is unschooling? Have you ever described 'red' to a person who is color blind? Sometimes, trying to define unschooling is like trying to define red. Ask thirty unschoolers to define the word and you'll get thirty shades of red. They'll all be red, but they'll all be different. Generally, unschoolers are concerned with learning or becoming educated, not with 'doing school.' The focus is upon the choices made by each individual learner, and those choices can vary according to learning style and personality type. There is no one way to unschool.

This discussion list is monitored and will be moderated for spam. We encourage, but don't enforce, civility, as we believe unschooling is best illustrated through modeling, not the school-based enforcement of a mediator/teacher. If you're inclined, you can learn about e-mail etiquette.[Thanks to Shay Seaborne and the VaEclectic list for the link.]

unschoolingbasics - A list designed for those new to the philosophy of unschooling. Ask experienced unschoolers all those niggling questions, and find out how unschooling works in real families.

If you're familiar with John Holt's work, but unsure of how to begin or what an unschooling day really looks like, this is a place for you to discuss, question, ponder and become deeply familiar with natural learning and how it affects our entire lives. From parenting issues to learning from the whole wide world and beyond, come explore the issues that unschooling families have dealt with in the past and how to get beyond "school-think" to a joyful unschooling lifestyle!

    To Subscribe, visit unschooling basics.

unschoolingcheap (Unschooling cheap) - Unschooling ? Homeschooling in a more relaxed way? Want to discuss ways to do it and not have to hock the family farm? If your looking for a list that will help you find cheap and free homeschool resources, but arnt interested in more worksheets, quiz makers,or textbook swaps, then this is the list for you!!!

Everyone is welcome, so please be respectful of others. We all do things in ways that suit our beliefs and fit in with out lives, so remember whats right for someone else might not be right for you, but that doesnt make it wrong. This list does have a no ads policy, no spam, ads etc....

unschoolingcircuitriders (Unschooling Circuit Riders) - Have you attended a unschooling conference wishing you could go to more during the year? Have you never had a chance to attend a conference and have heard everyone sharing how much they loved the one that just past? Do you belong to unschooling yahoo groups but don't have time to get on and read as much as you would like since you are busy doing other things with your family? Would you like to know about other types of conferences where there will be at least one speaker who will be talking about unschooling?

Here is one place where all statewide and larger unschooling conferences, gatherings, speakers and events can be posted so that those of us who would like to "ride the circuit" can easily find which ones are coming up. Any that have a website are consolidated in the "Links" section found on the left hand column. This includes anything from statewide to international. Smaller gatherings are welcome as long as they include an overnight.

This particular yahoo group is not covering local unschooling groups. For local get-togethers please find a list for your local area.

If you know of an unschooling conference, gathering, speaker or event that is not posted here, please add it to our list! If you know of a different type of conference, gathering, speaker or event not specifically related to unschooling but which you think other life learners might also be interested in, please e-mail me so we can consider posting it here as well.
