A student should not be taught more than he can think about.

New Hampshire Email Lists, Support Groups, Message Boards, Forums and Newsletters (O - Z)

Outschoolers - The Outschoolers are a Home Schooling Network based in Lyman and Westbrook for Home Schooling families residing in Maine and along the New Hampshire border. The Outschoolers seek to develop the resources for academic activities, classes, workshops, support, and extra-curricular activities. We see ourselves as a supportive, informational, non-secular collaborative within the home schooling network.

    To subscribe, visit Outschoolers.

SCHEA - Seacoast Christian Home Educators Association Facebook Page - We're here to provide support, inspiration and information to Christian homeschool families. We hope this fb group fosters a greater sense of community among homeschoolers in NH (and beyond).

You can learn more about us at Seacoast Christian Home Educators Association website. www.homeschoolnh.org

For more information, visit SCHEA - Seacoast Christian Home Educators Association Facebook Page.

SHOCO (Strafford Homeschool Cooperative) - The Strafford Homeschool Cooperative meets weekly in Strafford, New Hampshire during the traditional school year for academic classes and enrichment opportunities. We are a secular group that is open to all who want to actively contribute to the coop through teaching, organizing, or general helping. We are homeschool families learning together!

    To subscribe, visit SHOCO.

seacoastunschoolingnetwork (Seacoast Unschooling Network) - We are a non-directed support group, so all activities are initiated by individual families, who then invite others to join them.

We are a network of unschooling (and eclectic homeschoolers) families in the seacoast area of southern Maine and New Hampshire, as well as those who live a bit farther away but cannot find unschooling support in their area. We are an open-minded group, so if you are not quite an unschooler but take a relaxed approach to home education you will probably feel comfortable here. We also welcome those who are new to homeschooling or have young children and are exploring their options. If you are unfamiliar with what it means to unschool, please read over the links page on the website before joining the group.

We are inspired by the works of John Holt, and the idea that curiosity is innate and that learning is a natural, seamless part of life. We believe that the school model of coercive learning is inefficient and potentially harmful, and does not need to be replicated in the home. Perhaps the simplest definition of unschooling is "not doing school", and the purpose of this group is to share ways that we are living and learning without school.

We are a real-life community as well as a cyber-group, so we do ask that members provide some basic personal information along with their request to join the group (full name, town, ages of children). This information will go to the moderator and will not be shared with the whole group. Upon joining the group, an introduction is always nice, and helps us feel more comfortable with each other.

Regarding posting etiquette, this is intended to be a friendly, supportive group. Members should feel free to post their own thoughts and experiences, but in a way that is respectful of other families' values and lifestyles.

    To subscribe, visit seacoastunschoolingnetwork.

SNHS-NH (Special Needs Home School List) - Welcome to Special Needs Homeschooling (SNHS). We are a group of homeschooling families with at least one special needs child. Members have medically fragile children dealing with such challenges as speech, motor development and learning disabilities. Topics will include: curriculum, speech, OT, PT, sibling issues, "dealing with it all" and a host of other issues.

To join, please email one of the moderators with a brief discription of your homeschool and your special child. Group moderators are Sue: Lavalla5@prodigy.net and Jodi: catsndogs4us@tds.net.

Membership in this group is based on:
    Request to become a member
    Introduction of members.
    Active involvement of co-moderators.

In order for everyone to feel free to "voice their opinions" in a safe environment, the moderators will monitor all messages. While we want everyone to feel free to speak his/her mind, please be considerate in doing so. There are no steadfast and hard rules in educating a special needs child and everyone's opinion needs to be taken into consideration. Members are to forward only personal information with permission of the author. These are opinions and statements made personally. Examples are: personal schedules shared, someone's method of "teaching something", private stories, experiences and any opinions expressed.

To Subscribe, visit SNHS-NH -- Special needs homeschool list.
