The object of teaching a child is to enable the child to get along without the teacher. We need to educate our children for their future, not our past.
~ Arthur C. Clarke

Tennessee Email Lists, Support Groups, Message Boards, Forums and Newsletters
    N - Te

NETSHU (North East TN Secular Home/Unschoolers) - We are a great homeschool group with members in Johnson City, Kingsport, Bristol, Greeneville, border towns in VA and NC and all the little towns in between. This group is open to children of all ages. Please do not feel shy about joining the group because you feel we might not have other children close to your own children's ages. Currently we have children ages 4-15. We love to have field trips and get-together's of all kinds. Feel free to jump right in. Please try not to lurk as this is a group meant to be active. It is all about helping our children have fun, learn new things and make life long friends as well as memories.

    To subscribe, visit NETSHU.

NHSO (Nashville Homeschooling Onlies) - Are you homeschooling an only child? Or perhaps your other children are grown (or infants) and there's just one whom you homeschool? Or are your other children in public or private school and there's just one at home during the day? Is there such a large age gap between your children that each child FEELS like an only? Then this group is for you.

This is a group where Nashville homeschool parents and their only children can meet together, form friendships, swap childcare, plan educational activities together and offer each other support.

All Nashville homeschoolers are welcome, new, old, school-at-homers, unschoolers. If you have a need to connect your child with other homeschoolers, then you have a place here.

    To subscribe, visit NHSO.

North-Alabama-Trailblazers - North Alabama Trailblazers is a group of homeschooling families. We meet together for mutual socialization and companionship of children and parents alike. We serve Madison, Morgan, Limestone, AL and Lincoln, TN counties only. Anyone from the surrounding counties is welcome to join us but will have to drive to the Huntsville metro area for functions.

We are a cooperative support group open to any homeschooler that needs one, not a cover school. We have kids of all ages but the heart of our membership is currently children ages 3-12.

About once or twice a month we do field trips. We also do seasonal and holiday parties. We also do playdays twice a month from March-October at local parks. If a parent suggests an activity and is willing to help with it, we will try our best to do it.

If you would like more information about North Alabama Trailblazers and our current activities, please subscribe to this list.

All homeschoolers are welcome to join us but in order to remain a member after joining YOU MUST EITHER BE REFERRED BY ONE OF OUR EXISTING MEMBERS OR SOMEONE IN THE HOMESCHOOLING COMMUNITY OR, IF APPLYING ON THE WEB AND YOU DO NOT KNOW US, MUST MAKE ARRANGEMENTS TO ATTEND AT LEAST ONE FUNCTION WITHIN 60 DAYS OF YOUR MEMBERSHIP TO ALLOW US TO MEET YOU.

After all, this is an activity group for homeschool support and we do expect to see our members at activities from time to time so we can get to know them better. Also, the group and its activities are as successful as our member families make them be.

To Subscribe, visit North Alabama Trailblazers.

NWGeorgiaandChattanoogaHomeschoolers (NW Georgia & Chattanooga Homeschoolers) - This email list was creative to serve homeschooling families in the northwest Georgia and Chattanooga area. Please feel free to introduce yourself, announce activities you know about, ask questions, and offer support.

At present this is an email loop only. It could become more than that, if someone comes forward offering to coordinate play dates, field trips or other activities.

    Express opinions respectfully (no flaming.)

    To Subscribe, visit NWGeorgiaandChattanoogaHomeschoolers.

NWTHEA (NW Tennessee Home Educators Association) - This list has been set up to announce up-coming activities and field trips available to homeschoolers in North West Tennessee. It is also a forum for the discussion or exchange of ideas regarding homeschooling.

The NWTHEA list functions to connect homeschooling families and their support groups in North West Tennessee. Its purpose is to keep families aware of the opportunities for support and enrichment available within a roughly 60 mile radius of Henry County, TN. We welcome posts from local homeschool organizations. Meeting announcements, field trip and activity opportunities, workshops and conferences, and homeschool related for-sale items will be welcome. While we welcome families of all faiths to participate, please be aware that the overwhelming majority of members of this list are Christian and the subject matter of many posts will reflect a conservative, pro-family, pro-life point of view. If this is offensive to you, please do not subscribe.

    To Subscribe, visit NWTHEA.

ourkidsmatter2 (Our Kids Matter) - We wanted to create a group here in Knoxville and surrounding areas where all of us homeschooling families out there could discuss strategies, exchange advice on home schooling and have play dates. We have run into numerous roadblocks on our journey and have had trouble finding the *right* place to look for help. So, here it is. If you want a group where all ideas are welcomed and all members are encouraged to plan as well as participate this is the group for you. The only thing that we ask is that you are respectful of all the members’ opinions, religious belief and teaching techniques. We all have an equal voice in this group. Holiday parties, field trips, and any other activities will be proposed and planned by any of our members. A co-op is currently in the works. To make communication possible for our members we request that you provide certain contact information. Thank you.

POCH ( Ethnically Diverse Homeschoolers) - Welcome to POCH: Ethnically Diverse Homeschoolers. (POCH- CH has hard K sound-(Sounds like Tupac))

This group has been formed for people of color of any ethnicity who homeschool and are located in Middle Tennessee. POCH will provide playgroups, field trips, support groups for parents and teens, and various other activities.

The purpose of POCH is to provide an environment for children of color to connect with others who look like them. POCH is in place to assist parents with enriching their children's educational life with activities that speak to the unique experiences of diverse cultures. This is not meant to take place of regular play dates, field trips and various other activities. It is just a way to let People of Color know there are more of us out there homeschooling! It is also to provide a support group for the parents as well!

This is an announce-chat list. If you have homeschool questions, "homeschool" items for sale, would like to coordinate a field trip or play date, and so-on post the email here and all on the list will receive it.

POCH is a parent driven organization. Because Middle Tennessee encompasses a wide area of the state, POCH activities are not centralized. POCH members are encouraged to plan activiites that are convient to them and other members are free to attend.

tennhomeschoolers (Tennessee Homeschoolers) - Tennhomeschoolers was the first (Feb 1998) *inclusive list for homeschoolers in Tennessee. We have homeschoolers from across the state (& border states) including many veteran homeschoolers who can help you find your own way along this most excellent adventure. Everyone has something to share -- you don't have to be a veteran to support your fellow homeschoolers. If you have knowledge let others light their candles by it. The *diversity of this list keeps it interesting -- treating each other with respect keeps the list enjoyable. Together we shall light a candle of understanding in our hearts which shall not be put out.

Our policy regarding "on-topic" postings - we do not impose an ON TOPIC ONLY policy on this list. The thought of having to police this list for "off" topic posts sends shivers down my spine. There isn't enough money in the world to pay me to take on the job of having to explain/defend to the vast majority of our feisty, opinioned list members why topic x is "on" topic and topic "y" isn't. Willingness to use the delete key for threads that do not interest you or to take the heat if you enter the kitchen are our expectations for list members. Other expectations are: willingness to keep your virus software up-to-date and willingness to execute user accomplishable tasks such as managing your list subscription needs.

Y'all come visit now, sit a spell, take your shoes off, but be prepared we can be a rowdy bunch.

When posting, please include all pertinent information including a phone number and/or e-mail address of a contact person.

This is not a discussion list and please do not post items for sale.

If you represent a company or a group, you may include your web site address in your sig.

Attachments will be removed. Spammers will be removed.

And don't miss the only home business conference of its kind where you can take your teens to learn how to make money from home without college.
